Rafael Nadal Defeats Novak Djokovic in 2013 US Open
After almost 3 and a half grueling hours on the tennis courts, Rafael Nadal beat No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 defeat in a tense, rigid Grand Slam final in the 2013 US Open Championships! The win makes this Rafa’s 13th Grand Slam Title to date!
“Very, very emotional, no?” Nadal remarked during the trophy presentation. “Probably only my team knows how much (this) means for me.”
The games started in the daylight and ended in night in a 3 hours and 21 minute standoff which inspired many standing ovations during the games.
“Probably nobody brings my game to the limit like Novak,” said Nadal who received $3.6 million in prize money which includes $1 million bonus.
To date, this was their 37th match together which is the most between any two men. Nadal has been the winner of 22 of the matches.
“He was too good. He definitely deserved to win this match today and this trophy,” Djokovic said. “Obviously disappointing to lose a match like this.”
