Monfils, Fish Withdraw from 2013 Rogers Cup
World number 49 France’s tennis player Gael Monfils has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup being held Aug. 3 through Aug. 11 at the Stade Uniprix in Montreal Canada. Monfils injured his ankle while training on Thursday.
“I am frustrated and disappointed that I am unable to come through on the faith that Eugène put in me by giving me a wildcard,” said Monfils. “I sprained my ankle in practice this morning and received treatment before returning to the court to find that it was too painful. My doctor strongly advised me to be careful and take ten days of rest. I am sincerely sorry that I will not be able to play in Montreal.”
Mardy Fish, the American Tennis Player, has also withdrawn from the Rogers Cup but is said because of personal reasons. Replacing Monfils spot will be Canadian player Filip Peliwo of Vancouver with Uzbekistan Denis Istomin replacing Mardy Fish.
