Marin Cilic and Serena Williams Win 2014 US Open
Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic has defeated Japanese tennis player Kei Nishikori in the final round of the 2014 US Open. Cilic’s victory of 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 took under two hours at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows. Cilic came into the US Open as the fourteenth seed, but his first Grand Slam title win has brought him to #9. Kei Nishikori came into the match as the tenth seed and is now ranked #8.
World #1 Serena Williams has taken home yet another US Open Title against former #1 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. The win makes it Williams’ sixth US Open title and eighteenth Grand Slam title, putting her in a tie with Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert for joint fourth in the list of major winners. This is Serena’s third consecutive US Open win.
American twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won their fifth US Open doubles championship making it their 100th tournament title. The brothers defeated eleventh seeded Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez from Spain in a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The victory makes it their sixteenth Grand Slam title.
