Halep Wins 2013 New Haven Open Title
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep beat Czech Petra Kvitova in a 6-2, 6-2 defeat in the 2013 New Haven Open. Simona is world no. 23 in the ranks and defeated Daniela Hantuchova, Carla Suarez Navarro, Ekaterina Makarova and Caroline Wozniacki on her way to the Finals.
“I’m really happy that I played so good tennis today, incredible tennis and beautiful tennis,” said the 21-year-old Halep, a grin reaching ear-to-ear. “She played also great tennis I have to enjoy this moment. It’s unbelievable for me. I feel really, really nice. Really, really great now.”
This win is projected to put Halep in the No. 19 rank next week. Petra Kvitova is world No. 9 and is a former Wimbledon champion.
