Djokovic, Osaka win 2019 Australian Open

Serbian player Novak Djokovic beat world No. 2 Spaniard Rafael Nadal in an incredible straight set victory of 6-3, 6-2, 6-3, to win the Australian Open 2019 title. The triumph is Djokovic’s record seventh Australian Open title. The achievement is Novak’s 15th career Grand Slam conquest, moving him into sole ownership of the third place in history. Roger Federer has a total of 20 titles and Rafael places second with a total of 17 trophies. The Serbian player was tied at 14 Grand Slam titles with Pete Sampras. Also, Djokovic has won three consecutive Grand Slam titles, Wimbledon 2018, the US Open 2018 and now the Australian Open 2019.

In The Women’s Australian Open final Japanese player Naomi Osaka beat eighth-seeded Czech player Petra Kvitova in a 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 victory. The win is Naomi’s 2nd successive Grand Slam title after winning the US Open 2018 in September. Her victory results in getting her first career No. 1 WTA rank and is the first Japanese player to achieve the highest rank for both men and women. At 21 she is the youngest player to become No. 1 since Caroline Wozniacki in 2010.
