Cilic, Pliskova Win 2016 Western & Southern Open

After a rain delayed semi-final comeback, Marin Cilic won his first ATP Masters 1000 title against Andy Murray in a 6-4, 7-5 victory. The Western & Southern Open title makes him the youngest, age 27, active Grand Slam champion and the youngest ATP Masters 1000 champion. Cilic won his first major US Open title in 2014. Cilic is also the first Croatian to win the Rookwood Cup.

In the women’s single championship, Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic defeated Angelique Kerber with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Pliskova is the first Czech woman player to win the Cincinnati Masters singles title.
