Andreescu, Nadal win 2019 US Open

Canadian tennis pro Bianca Andreescu is the winner of her first Grand Slam title at the age of 19 years old beating Serena Williams in a 6-3, 7-5 victory. The 2019 US Open win brings her from 178th at the end of last season to No. 5 in the rankings on Monday with Ash Barty replacing Naomi Osaka at No. 1. The Canadian apologized to the crowd for beating Williams in the final saying she knew they wanted Williams to win.

In the men’s open, Rafael Nadal won the trophy keeping him at No. 2 in the ATP rankings which closes the gap between the defending champion No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Nadal beat Daniil Medvedev of Russia in a 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6 6-4 match on Sunday which lasted almost five hours. This brings Nadal his fourth US Open trophy and his 19th Grand Slam title.
