Djokovic, Halep win 2019 Wimbledon

Romanian professional tennis player Simona Halep has won the 2019 Wimbledon Championships against the 23rd Grand Slam winner Serena Williams of the United States in a 6-2, 6-2 defeat. The win is Halep’s 2nd major championship of her career. Serena said of the No. 7 seeded Simona that she played amazingly and literally played out of her mind, congratulating her for the win.

On Sunday on the Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Novak Djokovic emerged victorious after five hours of intense play against Roger Federer, ending in an unprecedented fifth set tiebreaker. The 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 13-12(3) defeat made Djokovic the first man in 71 years to bring home the Wimbledon title after needing to erase championship points. The victory was Djokovic’s 16th Grand Slam win and his fifth Wimbledon title and his second in a row.
