Wozniacki, Federer win 2018 Australian Open
Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki is celebrating her first time Grand Slam win at the Australian Open 2018 against Romania’s Simona Halep, defeating her in a 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4 final. The Dane has come close to winning a grand slam title in the 2009 and 2014 U.S. Opens finishing as the runner-up. Wozniacki will regain the number one ranking next week. It is the first time that No. 1 and No. 2 players played in a Grand Slam final without either of the players having won a Grand Slam title.
Swiss player Roger Federer beat sixth-seeded Croatian player Marin Cilic in a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 match making it his 20th Grand Slam title! At 36 years old Roger is the second-oldest man to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era. Ken Rosewall was 37 when he won the 1972 Australian Open. Federer is the first man to win 20 majors.
