Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic Win 2015 Australia Open

Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic Win 2015 Australia Open

After a great performance on the courts in Melbourne, Australia, Serena Williams defeated her arch-rival, Maria Sharapova, in a final score of 6-3, 7-6(7/5). The win makes it Serena’s sixth Australian Open win and her nineteenth Grand Slam title.

Williams victory speech honored her family saying “Growing up I wasn’t the richest, but I had a rich family in spirit and support, and standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen.

“I went on the courts with a ball, a racquet and a hope. That’s all I had. So all you guys who want to do something or be something, just never give up. You never know what can happen or who you can inspire. I’m just so honored.”

Williams would love to hit the 22 mark of Grand Slam wins but admits it will be a big task, having to of course win the 20th then the 21st. Even with a recent cold and bad cough, Williams is unbeatable!

In the men’s Australian Open finals, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won the Brookes Trophy after defeating Andy Murray from Britain. The win, 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 6-0, makes it Djokovic’s eighth Grand Slam Title. Australian Tennis Player, Roy Emerson, has won the most Australian Opens with six wins in the 1960’s leaving Djokovic second in wins. Novak continues to be world number one with Roger Federer number two and Rafael Nadal number three.
