Novak Djokovic and Flavia Pennetta Win BNP Paribas Titles

For the third time, No. 2 pro tennis player, Novak Djokovic has taken home the 2014 BNP Paribas Open title. The Serbian professional tennis player edged out the Swiss professional tennis player, Roger Federer, with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) on March 16, 2014 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Ca.

Novak has won a total of 6 Grand Slams and 42 titles with 17 Master 1000 titles in his career. He is the first Serbian player to win several Grand Slams and to actually win a Grand Slam singles title. The win will bring him to world No. 1, making him the first in his country to be in the No. 1 spot for 101 weeks.

Roger Federer was world No. 8 before his loss but will progress to No. 5 despite it. Roger has won a total of 16 Grand Slam tournaments in his career and is the tennis player that has made the most money in history with a total of about $80M.

In Woman’s tennis, Flavia Pennetta defeated World No. 2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska in a 6-2, 6-1 final. The win makes it her most prestigious title of her career. Pennetta says this about the win: “I perfectly remember after the match with Francesca [Schiavone] last year, the day after I was in the garden running and talking with my physio, Max, almost crying because the feeling and everything was so bad,” she said. “And now, after one year, we have the trophy. So he is happy also because we work so much for the injury and everything. So I think without him, without my coach, my family, maybe I was not here. I mean, I quit.”

Flavia is the first professional tennis player from her country of Italy to win the title. Agnieszka Radwańska is from Poland and is World No. 3. She has won a total of thirteen singles titles in her career.
