Bartoli Wins Women’s, Murray Wins Men’s Wimbledon Titles

Marion Bartoli from France defeated German’s Sabine Lisicki in a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. This is Bartoli’s first Grand Slam title and it was achieved by winning without dropping a set.

“Honestly I cannot believe it,” said the world number 15 Bartoli, “I really felt I was playing probably my best match of the Championships. I was doing everything well. I was moving well, I was returning well. I really played a wonderful match.

“Even in my perfect dream I couldn’t have dreamed a perfect moment like that. That is beyond perfection.”

In the Men’s tournament, Scottish tennis player and Brit’s Number One Andy Murray, defeated world number one Serbian Tennis Player, Novak Djokovic with the final score being 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. The last time a Brit won the grass-court grand slam was in 1936 by Fred Perry. Andy Murray had a gigantic smile on his face as the trophy was presented to him by the Duke of Kent.

“It feels slightly different to last year,” he said. “I’m so glad to finally do this.” Last year Murray lost to Roger Federer in the finals.
